On April 10, 2012 a study titled 'The Prolongation of the Lifespan of Rats by Repeated Oral Administration of [60]Fullerene' was published in the peer reviewed journal Biomaterials.  The study claimed that feeding rats carbon 60 dissolved in olive oil "can increase (lifespan) by up to 90%." The study concludes "C60 should be the most efficient ever material for extending lifespan." If these findings are confirmed then this might be one of the most important discoveries in history. Carbon 60 / olive oil solution may offer the potential to greatly increase healthy lifespans. This solution is experimental and it will likely be some time before we fully understand the mechanisms that make it effective. Carbon 60 olive oil solution is prepared by dissolving carbon 60 into olive oil. When the carbon dissolves, it turns the olive oil purple! This optical effect is a result of the physical size of the c60 molecule and it's corresponding interaction with light.
